Great Lakes Christmas Ale Release Date Set

Great Lakes has announced you’ll have exactly 2 months before its namesake holiday to hoard Christmas Ale. The official Christmas Ale release date 2012 has been set for Thursday, October 25th. At first, the brew will only be available at the pub in Ohio city. Starting that Thursday at 11 am there will be a release party, featuring Santa himself and plenty of Christmas cheer. The Great Lakes pub is probably the only place you’re going to get Christmas Ale that weekend.

It will then be available Thursday, November 1st in 6-packs at their gift shop. That is also the first day you’ll be able to fill your growler at the pub. Over the following days it will be available throughout the greater Cleveland area as distributors begin shipping out to stores and bars. Some areas take longer to stock then others, and many sell out right away. So its hard to say exactly when it will be available in your area. The most reliable place to buy Christmas Ale is at the Great Lakes gift store next to their pub in Ohio city. Its almost always in stock there, in both cases and 6-packs.

7.5% Holiday Cheer

Poetry Contest
Harnessing on the euphoria Clevelanders have for their seasonal brew, GLBC is holding a Christmas Ale poetry contest. The winner will be rewarded the very first pour of the ale available to the public during the release party. The winning poem will also be read by co-owner Pat Conway, in front of what is sure to be a packed house at the pub. For more details check out their official page on the competition.

And yes, everyone knows that ale rhymes with jail. You’ll have to do better then that to win.

Christmas Ale Ice Cream

Great Lakes is also announcing that Mitchell’s will be making a Christmas Ale flavored ice cream. The holiday treat will be available for a limited time in the brewpub as well as all of Mitchell’s NEO locations. Because Cleveland’s favorite beer is flavored with honey, ginger and cinnamon, it naturally mixes well with ice cream. It joins the ranks of Edmund Fitzgerald Porter Chocolate Chunk as a GLBC beer flavored ice cream.
