Downtown Cleveland just got a bit more exciting.
Filming begins today on the Avengers, and not for stock footage either. A major downtown street has been closed off, becoming one of the main sets for this Hollywood blockbuster movie. East 9th, between Euclid and Prospect, will be closed until September 2nd for filming. Storefronts have been remodeled for the movie and it is likely major action scenes will be taking place there. Several other streets around downtown will be closed for filming, including Public Square.
The Avengers will be shot primarily in Cleveland, bringing several major movie stars like Robert Downey Jr, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johannson and Chris Evans to town. Several reports on twitter have already spotted Samuel L Jackson in the city.
The Avengers is filming in Cleveland due in large part to the Ohio Motion Picture Tax Credit. Several movies are filming in Cleveland this year, such as I, Alex Cross and Fun Size, bringing with them hundreds of crew jobs and work for thousands of extras.
